Helencas is a Colombian-born, UK-based mixed media and textile artist whose work blends painting, fabric, and embellishment into ethereal botanical worlds. From an early age, she developed a passion for colour, artisan embroidery, and handcrafts, a practice first nurtured by her mother in her hometown in Colombia. Her adventurous spirit led her to Spain in 2001, where she lived for over a decade in cosmopolitan Barcelona. During this period, she expanded her artistic and design education at prestigious institutions such as Felicidad Duce and I.D.E.P., and collaborated with jewellery makers, fashion and costume designers. She also refined her technical expertise in the manufacturing industry, gaining proficiency in sewing, soft furnishings, and machine embroidery. In 2012, the artist settled in Devon, UK, where she continues to live and create. She completed a First Class BA (Hons) in Textile Practices at Plymouth College of Art, building on more than 25 years of prior experience in the field. Her practice now unites painting, drawing, and embroidery into layered compositions that explore the poetic interplay between nature, texture, and imagination.Today, Helencas develops collections that merge her background in fashion, design, and textiles with her ongoing passion for painting and embroidery. Her pieces invite viewers into dreamlike botanical landscapes, offering moments of stillness, depth, and wonder.
